Quick Start Guide
Jun. 3rd, 2016 09:34 amSince the FAQ, Setting, Setting FAQ, Network FAQ, AND the Rules can seem a little daunting for someone starting out, I figured I'd make a quick starter guide/cheat sheet with some of the meat and potatoes information anyone might need to begin playing. Those guides are still your best source for in-depth info [and you really really should read the rules!], but here's a rundown: What Goes Where 🌟 network posts go to ![]() 🌟 joining and playing in ![]() 🌟 action/prose taking place in the main gamespace should be posted to ![]() 🌟 action/prose taking place in one's homeworld should be posted to ![]() 🌟 out of character posts for discussion, introductions, plotting, etc. go to ![]() 🌟 memes etc. can go to ![]() 🌟 our discord chat is here The CALL Device 📠it appears beside you sometime while you are not looking 📠there are no instructions, but touching the device turns it on 📠for those who would not know what a smart phone is or how to use it, a short tutorial will play out on the basics of what the device is and the basics on its use 📠there are no further instructions 📠you can't break it, turn it off, or lose it, and it never needs charging 📠your device starts with a number of apps, including the appropriate networks and an app store. 📠pressing the [TRANSPORT] button brings you to the front square of McAran Tower, home of McAran Industries in the SFC; the button can be reset to any location in any City once you're there, though 📠you can travel to other people's homeworlds by holding their hand while they hit the [TRANSPORT] button; you can get back to the SFC by hitting the [TRANSPORT] button on your own device, and hitting it again will take you home The Networks ⌨ if you're registered as a villain, you have access to the CALL Network and CAD, which is labeled more specifically as 'Chaos and Destruction' ⌨ if you're registered as a hero, you have access to the CALL Network and HERO, which is labeled as the 'Heroic Education and Rallying Organization' ⌨ if you're registered as a neutral party, you have access to the CALL Network ⌨ if you're not registered at ALL (not apped), you have access to the CALL network ⌨ assignment to networks isn't necessarily permanent and can adjust as your character grows and changes ⌨ you can send private messages; these can be marked as such in a post or sent via inboxes ⌨ messages can be text, audio, video, or images ⌨ messages on the various networks can be filtered to Rookies, Journeymen, or Mentors The Seven-Fold City ☀ SFC = The Seven-Fold City ☀ it's a massive city (more like a small country) made up of seven smaller Cities in a donut around a central bay with waterways between the slices and islands out past the hub ☀ the Cities are as follows: the Cities of Tomorrow, Shadows, Nightmares, Sorcery, Laughter, Adventure, and Romance ☀ each City embodies one genre of media and works according to the rules of that genre: [ex. a running leap attack in Adventure can be a crowning moment of awesome, while trying that in Nightmares has a 90% chance to get you skewered by the psycho killer | people acting possessed in Tomorrow can probably be blamed on nanotech inside their brains; in Sorcery, it's a curse or demonic possession and would need to be handled accordingly] ☀ The genres are as follows: Tomorrow = Scifi ☀ Shadows = Noir/Suspense ☀ Nightmares = Horror ☀ Sorcery = Fantasy ☀ Laughter = Comedy ☀ Adventure = Action/Adventure ☀ Romance = Romance/Smut ☀ Some Cities have strange weather/time issues; [ex. It's almost always nighttime in Nightmares and it's almost always raining or overcast in Shadows, but Romance has a tendency to have perfect weather other than the occasional rain for umbrella-based Meet-cutes] ☀ Directions given usually utilize hubward (outside of the circle) or pointward (inside of the circle) and the neighboring City: Northwest vs. Pointward Romance ☀ Tech/historical level in the Cities is varied, though generally pointward is more futuristic and the farther towards the hub you go, the less advanced it is NPCs and You ✌ the SFC is populated by what are known as Unnamed Characters, all those people in stories who live in the background ✌ UCs do have names; their status as a UC has to do with their place in stories ✌ Player characters are Named Characters, those who have narrative power in stories ✌ NCs warp the reality of the SFC around them a little bit, which is why dates, times, currency, etc will match what they're familiar with ✌ UCs will treat NCs like anyone else, but they are aware of the difference, especially if a conflict comes up; for reference, UCs would also be redshirts in Star Trek ✌ NCs have something of a sense for one another which can be used or not as needed to enable threads ✌ Players are welcome to mod up to 20 UCs and a single location for any post; [ex. Susan can have a log post detailing how she got into a fight at a bar and walked out bruised and a little bloody for someone to encounter; she could even mod a UC to come trailing out after her to hassle her and whoever tagged in.] Start Playing! ✔ If your character is confused upon arriving, there is a front desk attendant willing to explain the basics of the device and where you are just inside the front door of McAran Tower; they do not know why you were given a device or how it got to you ✔ Not sure what to do or how to get started? Check out the WSFC Broadcasts tag for 'current events' or the ReQuests tag for UC requests that have not been fulfilled. ✔ Need any help? Ping ![]() |
